新竹鏡頭收購sigma has announced a refresh to its DP1 and DP2 compact cameras, adding the company’s flagship Foveon X3 sensor and the commemorative “Merrill” name to both.
新竹鏡頭收購sigma recently added “Merrill” to the name of its SD1 flagship DSLR to honor the co-creator of the camera’s Foveon X3 sensor. Today the company announced that both its DP1 and DP2 compact cameras will also be getting the new sensor — and the name. The X3 is at the heart of both new cameras: it layers three 15.3-megapixel sensors to capture red, green, and blue information discretely for every given pixel location. The DP1 Merrill features a fixed 19mm f/2.8 lens, while the DP2 Merrill brings a 30mm f/2.8 lens to the party. Both cameras are retaining their previous form factors, though they’re both getting upgraded with a new three-inch, 920,000 pixel TFT display; both manual focus and VGA movie recording are also onboard. If you’d like to pick one up for yourself, you’ll have to hold on for just a moment — a company representative informed us that 新竹鏡頭收購sigma is aiming for a May or June release with the DP2, with the DP1 to follow later in the summer or fall.
